At Hemp Eyewear we sell eco sunglasses and hemp rucksacks. All of our products are ethically produced and made from sustainable materials. We are promoting the most sustainable resource we as a planet have and are planning to create a wide range of products made from hemp.
By imposing dreadful working conditions to many labourers worldwide, the fashion industry is the leading cause of slavery. It also continues to have huge environmental impacts for our planet and Hemp Eyewear is determined to change the norm by being 100% sustainable.
Despite this bad picture, the fashion industry is not the largest polluter in the world.
In fact, raising animals for food is by far the leading cause of global warming, forest destruction, water pollution and species extinction, so the worst pollutant on the planet…
Especially in the modern day, it is important to know the alarming facts that might change your perceptions on pollution and climate change:
Responsible for 51% of all greenhouse gases,
Leading cause of worldwide deforestation,
Leading cause of species extinction,
Leading cause of ocean dead-zones,
Leading cause of water pollution,
This is not fossil fuel, it is raising animals for food.
Gathering livestock for animals generates more greenhouse gases than all the world’s vehicles. In fact, methane from livestock is 86% more destructive than CO2 from all vehicles combined.
We also need trees to live on this planet, but 91% of amazon destruction has been for animal agriculture causing a huge irreversible loss of 100 species every year. 30% of all water consumed is for animal agriculture and 3/4 of all fisheries are depleted from over-fishing.
Almost 50% of all grain is harvested for livestock and yet 1 billion people are hungry in the world.
We are not here to give lessons or being judgmental. I am not a vegetarian (neither a vegan), I eat meat and wear leather. But working at Hemp Eyewear enables me to comprehend the meaning of sustainability. I personally feel less ignorant about what is happening in our world. I understand the severity of environmental issues that our food industry is causing.
Maybe as consumers, we underestimate the power we have to change things. We can still live, work, exercise, go out, travel and enjoying our lives without eating meat everyday. It is up to us to change the big issues of the world through our everyday choices.
