The Harry Potter and Green Activist actress made quite an entrance at the Met Ball 2016 by wearing a 100% sustainable outfit which is recycled from plastic bottles!

The founder of Eco-Age, Livia Firth launched the Green Carpet Challenge and encourage hollywood actors to wear sustainable and renewable dresses in order to raise awareness on the serious environmental impacts that the fashion industry is generating!

Emma Watson was joined by Lupita Nyong’o and Margot Robbie, who both supported the initiative by wearing eco friendly dresses also made in an ethical way.

“I made a choice last year that I would only wear sustainable fashion on the red carpet. The fashion industry is the second-biggest pollutant of fresh water on the planet. It has such a huge environmental impact and such a big human impact. And it’s just not enough for me anymore that it’s a beautiful item or a beautiful piece.”

At Hemp Eyewear, we also try to show people it is possible to look good and do good at the same time. Corporates need to use sustainable resources without harming them. Should we remind them that Hemp is paradoxically underused and banned in many countries, despite being one of the most sustainable crops on the planet.

Instead of using cotton which is very harmful to the environment, we should be using hemp! Benefits of hemp include:

  • Grows two times faster than cotton

  • Does not require any pesticides to grow (Cotton uses over 30% of the worlds pesticides)

  • Requires less than 50% of the water content than cotton

  • Hemp produces over 200% more fibre than cotton per acre

Emma Watson speaking to CNN Style’s Derek Blasberg about why she’s incorporating sustainable fashion into her red-carpet appearances.
