Along the Pacific Coast of the United-States, San Diego is determined to join the growing list of the World’s Greenest Cities.

After, Vancouver, Copenhagen and its Californian neighbour, San Fransisco, San Diego is the next place that “moves forward with an ambitious plan to run on 100% renewable energy and cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2035.”

What are its actions ?

A climate plan action, unanimously agreed by the american government, includes an enumeration of long term prerogatives which aim to resolve urgent environmental issues which can not be put aside for any longer.

Renewables including solar and wind would be largely expanded to achieve the plan’s goal. San Diego is already the second american city for solar power with “its installations growing 76.6 percent in two years to 189 megawatts of installed photovoltaic capacity at the end of 2015”. Also known for its famous parks, the plan is to significantly increase the amount of trees though the city, which enable the San diegans to breath cleaner air.

“More climate scientists are recognizing the importance of restoring ecosystems to draw down atmospheric carbon in order to reverse global warming and protect biodiversity.”

Other means include recycling or composting 90 percent of all solid waste and cutting car trips by half by 2035. In order to reduce private automobile use, San Diego plans to notably invest in public transportation and bicycling infrastructure. The city would also make half of its vehicles electric!

It is surely the role of the western monopole’s to show the example to the world, by committing to powering their economies completely with clean energy.
