If there’s one thing we like, it’s seeing everyday items made from hemp. Robert Jungmann aims to bring hemp to every back with his t-shirt line, Jungmaven.
In an interview with Marley Natural, Jungmann makes the case for hemp as an everyday material, rather than a novelty. According to Marley Natural; “Jungmaven dispels the crunchy hippie connotations that are often associated with hemp apparel.”.
Jungmaven t-shirts are simple and uniform - items that can be worn easily and without much thought. Retailing at $48 each, they aren’t cheap but neither are they out of reach for the average customer. Their slogan “Everyone in a hemp tee by 2020” makes a strong promise, but one which is rapidly becoming more achievable.
The menswear designer explains how he became disillusioned with the clothing industry. Specifically, the amount of waste involved. Although his previous line, Manastash, used hemp as it's primary material, that didn't go entirely according to plan. "We wanted to show the world that you could make anything with hemp," says Jungmann. "And then one day I looked in our warehouse and we had a million dollars of dead stock."
Continuing from our last blog, about how the fashion customer is beginning to appreciate long-lasting quality, Jungmann believes that the key is having a story to your clothing that resonates with your customer base. "Millennialist are now voting with their dollar. They want to know what they're investing in. That's beautiful." he tells Marley Natural.
We think Jungmann's approach is spot on. It's important that hemp is seen as a genuine material in the fashion industry, and not just a gimmick. Making items that are easily integrated into our lives, such as good quality t-shirts, is essential. No compromise in the product, only more sustainable.
